Jackson, TN – A woman was found dead inside her home at Lincoln Courts Apartments, according to Jackson police. Jackson firefighters said they responded around 12:15 p.m. Saturday.

“He was met by the family members outside and said that they had tried to wake their mother up, and so that’s when they went in to see what was going on,” Jackson Fire Department Captain Robert Tipler said.

Investigators did not release a cause of death. WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News spoke with the woman’s children. They did not want to be on camera, but told us they believe their mother died in her sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning.

“They got there and they found the lady unresponsive, checked for a pulse, didn’t find one,” Tipler said.

Neighbors said the woman reported a gas leak Friday to the maintenance office at the complex after allegedly smelling gas inside her home.

Jackson Energy Authority sent WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the following statement:

“Jackson Energy Authority, responding to a call from the Jackson Police Department, dispatched a crew to 227 Lincoln Circle. JEA personnel found no gas leak at 227 Lincoln Circle.

The Jackson Energy Authority provides gas service to a master meter for the Jackson Housing Authority, not to the individual residence within the Jackson Housing Authority.”

Jackson police said this incident is still under investigation.
